BSL Burlington day two

BSL Burlington day two

Fair and warm.

We walked the length of main, pearl, church from the top of the university to the lake, as well as some side streets. Not one phone company store. No Verizon, attending, tmobile, nada. Lots of stuff for skiing or running or biking.

Asked the restaurant how to get a reservation. Use open table we are told. Did not offer a place until Wednesday. Paced by today and they said, oh, it does not work, they are supposed to fax us the list. Best you come by and just wait a bit.

Dinner at Leung bistro.

Same as the past few days – nice

Early departure for mammoth area. Last day of this tour.

Mammoth refers to the travertine formations constantly under construction from underground thermal influences carrying calcium carbonate. Spectacular, especially Palatine falls.

BSL West Yellowstone

BSL West Yellowstone
Thursday 20September

Another beautiful day.

Hike up mount Washburn. Wide trail, used in earlier days by model t fords, they went up in their lowest gear, reverse.

Rocky climb up, no view to speak of due to the numerous forest fires nearby. They will run until it snows in October.

On the way up, blue grouse, chipmunks, Clarks nutcracker birds, pika, bear crossing river, bison crossing road, raven.

Not clear to me why hikers like to climb up mountains and then have to scramble down. Seems pointless especially when viewing is obscured.

Short stroll around part of the Lake and then dinner. Bison filet, surprising tasty, very lean.

Last night in Yellowstone. Touring and walking mammoth area tomorrow. According to guides we have seen top ten parts of the park.

Clear, a bit warmer

Out of the bar N ranch to the oldest inn in the park. 1898.

Gibbon canyon, grand Canyon, and a walk in the high country.

Both the North and South rims of the Grand Canyon.

Bear tracks.
Grizzly bear napping across the Yellowstone river. Bison walks by and into the river. Eventually the bear follows.

Earlier herds of bison. Chipmunks, geese.

Yellowstone lake hotel, federal or Greek revival, 300 rooms, pianist in lobby.

No tv, no Internet

BSL West Yellowstone three

BSL West Yellowstone three

Chilly 25 degree morning warming up later.

Fairy falls, more geysers up on a high ridge, more steam.

Back country illegal trail walk and scramble through a forest of fallen trees and over a saddle of kames, an interesting geologic formation.

Fine bald eagle, in very good viewing location, viewing aided by fine scope of guide. Red squirrel, mountain blue bids, Swanson Hawk, elk in the back country

BSL West Yellowstone two

Overcast early, then warming

Usual boardwalk tour of old faithful, numerous geysers, steam vents, mudpots, waterholes etc.

Impressive landscape, zillions of guide highlights.

A good day for wildlife. Elk, bison, raven, chipmunks, bio films, extremophiles, variety without end of bacteria. Rocks that used to be there and are now here.

Yellowstone is a tour of geologic activity and geology. The Boogs have seen a lot of landscape but few areas compare to this.
