BSLC Burlington

Monday hot sunny no mosquitoes

Shelburne museum: a very fine ball of string. Hear a shout out to +Al C for pointing me to this.

Museum: major impressionist exhibit, quilts, the never to be forgotten carved circuses (well remembered from a previous visit) with 4000 carvings, american art exhibit, 20 th century but no WPA works.

Be sure to see the Ll bean lacked pic.

A different dinner.

Aggregated stats from MyTracks. Clearly many are wrong, distances seem correct.

BSLC Burlington Vermont

Sunday cool, windy, rain predicted in late afternoon, may have a mosquito bite.

Headed back to Vermont having circumnavigated enough of the lake.

Easy crossing from Essex and then up to Burlington,a city. A long days ride.

Had intended to stop at shelburne but had a enormous tailwind which now me right into Burlington

Nice conversation with another cyclist, a Buddhist who has spent considerable time in Burma and other parts of SE Asia.

It is good for me to see and be reminded how much/most of America lives. Rural, poor, few services, few if any fresh fruit, hard to find vegetables, some excellent roads due to pork legislation I would guess, politically isolated at least at the federal level, very friendly and sociable at least to me, churches playing an important role, medical services few and far between, restaurants as they exist not serving healthy food, where front porches are for sitting and drinking and smoking, where homemade food for not mean good.

Time for me to get back to a more urban location. Urban and a good hotel.

BSLC Keesville

Saturday sunny no mosquitoes quite a bit warmer.

Lovely ride after a sleep 9 of half hours not even interrupted by getting getting up to pee.

Motel surprisingly good, about a 30 minute walk to the chasm.

Visit to the much visited Ausable Chasm, the grand canyon of the east as they call it. Three miles of rim walking and about a mile of floating on either a tube or raft.

The many pictures should give a bit of a view. Thanks to all who recommended this giant attraction.

No T-Mobile
No Verizon

Owners dial up so slow I do not know if this will go out. Motel has free Wi-Fi but it is run by old dialup. So much for rural areas.

Will try pictures separately.

BSLC Platsburgh

Friday sunny no mosquitoes

Progress around the lake. Now on NY side. Not nearly as rural.

Each B&B proprietor has mentioned taxes. Wasted money on noon essential items, how it benefits them and how they pay too much. A rural theme.

Early morning riding is the best. Little wind, query roads, air is fresher and of course legs are renewed by the night rest.

Thursday sunny windy no mosquitoes

A healthy breakfast, perfectly prepared with home baked chocolate raspberry muffins.

Under who knew: Vermont has two high tech border crossings, a population of under 700K, the largest number of deportations in the North.

Finished the picture postcard perfect rail trail, 55 miles round trip, 3% average grade, good gravel surface.

Today was an almost perfect booking day. Excellent roads, landscapes, virtually no traffic. Almost due to the wind.

Returned to the same fine B&B,circa 1795 stone building, originally a stagecoach stop, as Tuesday night. Different path, longer but fewer vertical climbs and better quality roads. Much much harder due to wind from the west

The owner here graduated from SUNY Binghamton, 1974, geolgy. Ended up as a mechanical engineer.
