Monday, cool and nice, April 23

Hot tub followed by a morning walk as QB slept in a bit.

Wandered downtown past the University students rushing to class, row houses without address, seems to be the norm in Cork, and St Finn Bares 19th century cathedral.

The cathedral was unwelcoming with its 5 euro fee. Anglican charges, Catholics not. Cork an old City so the cathedral is sited in a place occupied by religion for over a thousand years.

Naturally there is a waterway,

QB joined at the English market, mainstay tourist attraction as well as a good European style market.

Brunch at liberty grill, too salty black pudding

J1 Visa:

At the grill met a server who spent several months in San Francisco working with one. Arranged by the University as a cultural exchange. Very positive experience and paid $20/hour.

Bobby caught up with us and we all headed to Blarney castle. Known for its unimpressive structure it has lovely grounds. we spent considerable time on the grounds.

A number more of excellent views on Flickr of this date.

Dinner at Greens, a high end place, with a well deserved reputation, recommended by Siobhan.

Above, beef stew molded. Yum.

Sunday, lovely day.

Siobhan and Diarmid picked us up, us including Bobby but not the still bed bound JD for a lovely day of touring and walking.

Managed to fit in a hot tub and morning scones with Bobby.

A scenic drives to the lunch pub mentioned in the previous post.

Brunch started with Red Breast and Paddy, both Irish whiskeys.  A local redish beer added to the alcohol consumption,

Excellent monk fish as well as a trio of fine deserts.

Charles castle, pictured, above, star shaped was preceded by a walk along a bay of the Atlantic. Then a walk from the castle to Kinsale, a charming town also on the coast.

Above a view of Kinsale from a hilltop.

During the walk through Kinsale we stopped for a Guinness, quite more mellow here.  The fireplace was using non-smokey coal brought in from Poland.  Eco  reasons.

Picture postcard views, as to be expected, through the day.  At one point I mentioned it might be a backdrop.  Siobhan asked “does it smudge?”

A final snack!

 Hayfield Manor

Bobby and JD are already in Cork. They arrived a day earlier. They might have made a small error in timing but a good one as JD’s brother lives in Cork.

Plans to meet us at the airport went awry.  I had so planned a groupie – OMG it’s JD shouting welcome-  but alas he developed a welcome killing cold.

Tomorrow the plan is/was brunch.

Sunday brunch; I quote from our invitation:

https://www.tripadvisor.ie/Restaurant_Review-g211877-d1524650-Reviews-Deasy_s_Pub_Fish_Restaurant-Clonakilty_County_Cork.html

This is one of the best restaurants in Ireland. Siobhan has nabbed us a table, which is hard to get on weekends.

Siobhan calls is “a hidden gem”.”

Arrival pic at Heathrow. Restorative tea.
Driven to the hotel by a race car driver. Glad to get there I one piece.
Greeted in the hotel with glasses of Drombeg, a locally made 22% liquor that is bottled to look like whiskey. A bit sweet, but not too sweet.  Apparently available on here in Cork.

Dinner at the bistro, more of a real restaurant at this joint.  We tried a black pudding fritter with ham hock. surprisingly good.  enjoys with a local UPS.

and the IPA

fatigue is now setting in, so…That’s all folks

In the past after a trip G+ would send a trip summary of pictures and maps they prepared automatically. Google would select 10 or more pictures and connect each place traveled into a travelog. Excellent.

a) have they stopped with 7?
b) is there an archive somewhere for previous trips?

thanks
