George and Michelle seem quite subdued. Are you feeding them enough?

BSD Vienna qb

May 17, 2008 catching up on a post

The Sacking Krewe closes in on its Part One objective: a half-days ride from
Vienna. New and impossible-to-value plunder includes two cakes of soap and a
new plastic soap dish. The team is ecstatic.

Sponsered by Tip Top Tea (The Tea of Record). Our Centurion Blend has been
feared and revered since the last days of the HRE.

Arrived in Tulln today. Warm, flat, buggy ride.

Another city celebrating its Roman past with some leftover pieces of
buildings and a statue of Marcus Aurelius. He also has his own park with
gazebo.

Tulln has an Egon Schiele museum (he was a homie), and a garden with
mosquito ponds. There is an elaborate statue (see photo) of characters from
the Ring complete with fountain.

There is no such thing as just a cookie in this part of the world. The
kokaskuppel (see fig 1), looks like an innocent meringue with a bit of
chocolate on the bottom. But nein! The meringue is mixed with nuts and
coconut. The inside is shredded coconut mixed with cream or marshmallow
(cocoflutter) and the bottom is coated in chocolate with chocolate creme
inside. Our teeth are disintegrating.

BSD Vienna

18 May

Big Abby, mostly closed to public, with large library.

Made it to Vienna! Some proof in the pic. Great hotel, really great. Only
flaw, so far, is that the Jaccuzzi is at a tepid 38 C.

Brothers Grimm for the fairy tales?

The sheep look pretty laid back – or layed down. Were they blocking the
road? Or just waiting to assault passing travelers? Do they carry knives?
Some sheep can be very dangerous, you know!

Herr BoogStein is looking very slim and trim. Biking certainly seems to
agree with you!

First off, the city name is not a miss spelling.

Unlike the Wachau today is a quiet ride with no towns at all in the previous 25 km. Found a coffee stop. Also saw their equivalent to a lemonade stand.

Lunch in Tulln: Japanese restaurant. Against the advice of the QB I took the sushi bento. She took the safe salmon terriaki. Good to have a break and some not greasy rice.

Homework: we are now at the edge of the Weiner Wald, the Vienna Woods. Which fairy tales are based on or come from this location?

About 5 minutes away by foot is the birthplace and museum of Egon schiele. Good small museum with a number of his works, I liked the impressionist ones and thought many of the portraits and others looked like paint by numbers.

Bonus question. We are signs to the Minorite churches and Klosters. Who are or were the
Minorites?

Today we have a two bedroom sopartment right on the river and the Roman tower. Lots of space in a fine small hotel, word used lightly. No CNN or in room net and shower has no curtain, mostly the sitzbath variety.

All in the eye of the beholder: I thought the sheep looked rather sweet piled up like that (rather like kittens or puppies). The only other thought I had was that they looked rather lazy and perhaps needed to get jobs. After all, this is Germany/Austria–this is not a good example for the tourists to see.

So, we won't delve into Bob Morgen's mind any further, or the BSD site will next have to be rated and where would that leave us? (none of us being over 16), or worse, Hollywood will no longer allow BSD photos on the Internet.

Yes, Virginia, The Klosters is a place in Northern Manhattan, supported by the Rockefellers. The BSD Expedition did indeed take a wrong turning–thought they were having sushi in Austria (highly unlikely). What will they tell us next? Fairy tales from the Vienna Woods?

I will not comment on the sheep who appear to be engaged in an unspeakable
and possibly illegal act.

But the sitzbath sounds like a nice feature for weary bikers!

I do not share the QB's concerns about sushi in Austria. They probably spray
the fish with clorox and culture the meal every ten minutes to be sure there
are no stray bacteria. They are very fastidious.

The Austrians do a famous version of brisket that I remember fondly. I
think it is called tafelspitz or something spitz. Nearly fat free and
served in broth, it is almost Japanese. And it comes with horseradish. You
might consider abandoning your lacto-ovo-fisho vegetarianism long enough to
try it.

Minorite' are/were a branch of the Franciscan order which sometimes strays into the overly democratic (i.e., any whiff of democracy) participation of commoners in the church. I believe they came under the visage of the those guys "…no one expects…" Aren't the Klosters on Northern Manhattan – took a wrong turn someplace in Austria? – TK
