Once again, we have dropped the planned excursion. Boiling pits of hot mud have been seen before and will be seen tomorrow when we do the onsen trip.

About all the reason in town is a mall. Those who did not go on excursions went to the mall. They like us left after picking up very little.

A couple we met liking it to Walmart
We are here in this quiet town because the ship diverted here after finding out that the cranes where we were supposed to be today were no longer available as the crane Park closed.

Buffet asian dinner

The afternoon tea looks very lovely indeed… more fun than the mall.
Yes. Also excellent tk comment. Tea a bit close to dinner 😀
Just to note, the likely reason the Crane Park is closed is that there aren’t any (many?) cranes there yet. The migration of the Tancho (the red-crowned variety of Hokkaido https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-crowned_crane) usually doesn’t reach this area of Hokkaido until the start of Winter, another month or so – best in January/February when the snows are deeper in Eastern China and central Hokkaido sending them to the relatively “tepid” part of the island where they can more easily find food. The area around Kushiro, which I think is your next stop, has a lot of marshes which are prime areas for the Winter migrants [Nobue and I saw some when we wandered around Eastern Hokkaido back in the 1980s, but that was later in the season].
Thanks for the explanation. The cruise was originally set to stop there; guess a planning error.
