BSI Dublin 3rd and last night

Sunday 14 May Intermittent showers

Breakfast with Peter Galvin. A thank you get together for a well planned and serviced trip. We will remember the trip and his personal story well.  We will use his company for our next trip in Ireland.

The Little Museum, advertised a 29 minute tour and time afterwards for poking about. History of Ireland since 1776 when the house was built.  Now a non-profit.  The house is part of Georgian Dublin.  A number of such houses in this area.

One interesting artifact is a first English edition of Joyce’s Ulysses.

Dublin Castle, old fort and then a fancy social society residence.  We did not go in for the tour – more aristocracy.

Christ Church visited on the way to Saint Patrick’s to hear choral evensong.  Christ Church is Anglican so they charge to go in and see it.  We demurred but got to hear the choir practice for their evensong.

Not clear why there are two Anglican cathedrals so close (3 minutes on foot) together.

Saint Patrick’s has had a choir since the 1450’s.  Also a good organ which we wanted to hear.  Neither disappointed.  Service was modern, at least the music, and we ran into a special memorial for a previous Dean. Extended service and more music.

Picture at end of service.  Photos not permitted otherwise.
