BSLC Burlington Vermont

Sunday cool, windy, rain predicted in late afternoon, may have a mosquito bite.

Headed back to Vermont having circumnavigated enough of the lake.

Easy crossing from Essex and then up to Burlington,a city. A long days ride.

Had intended to stop at shelburne but had a enormous tailwind which now me right into Burlington

Nice conversation with another cyclist, a Buddhist who has spent considerable time in Burma and other parts of SE Asia.

It is good for me to see and be reminded how much/most of America lives. Rural, poor, few services, few if any fresh fruit, hard to find vegetables, some excellent roads due to pork legislation I would guess, politically isolated at least at the federal level, very friendly and sociable at least to me, churches playing an important role, medical services few and far between, restaurants as they exist not serving healthy food, where front porches are for sitting and drinking and smoking, where homemade food for not mean good.

Time for me to get back to a more urban location. Urban and a good hotel.

Thanks for the report Jeff. Yes, its a good reminder of how most folks live. Unfortunately…. How do you find their moods though? Do you think people feel abandoned?

No, not abandoned. Isolated often by choice, sometimes by circumstances. Hard to know of course but I have the feeling that there is less depression.

Maybe your next trek should be the Marquette, Michigan area. Not much up there either but nature and a few big cold lakes.
